HIDEKI HAYASHI

Hideki Hayashi — Geometry in Glaze
Hideki Hayashi, the next-generation master of Mino ware, brings together tradition and innovation through a unique visual language of carved lines and vivid glazes.
Carrying on the legacy of his family kiln, Kakurin-gama, Hayashi fuses the precision of architectural design with the warmth of handmade craft. His signature technique—engraving geometric patterns using custom-forged tools—creates striking contrasts when paired with his rich, expressive glazes.
His work is both contemporary and timeless: tactile, vibrant, and designed to bring quiet joy to everyday moments.
With every piece, Hideki Hayashi invites you to experience beauty through structure, color, and form—crafted with the soul of Mino.

The Art of Reinvention
Hayashi’s original style was born from a deep exploration of both tradition and personal expression. After studying architectural design and later immersing himself in the techniques of Mino ware, he began developing his own tools—modified blades and needles—to carve intricate, geometric patterns directly into the clay. This distinctive senkoku (line engraving) technique, combined with his bold use of vibrant glazes, gave rise to a completely new aesthetic in Japanese pottery: structured yet organic, minimal yet expressive. His work reflects not only his technical mastery, but also his desire to push the boundaries of what Mino ware can be in the modern age.

Refined Living Through Form and Color
What makes Hayashi’s pottery so special is how it transforms everyday life into something quietly extraordinary. Each piece is designed to be both artful and functional—cups that fit comfortably in the hand, bowls that enrich a daily meal, vases that catch the light in unexpected ways. The harmony between color, form, and carved detail creates a sense of calm and delight with every use. Whether placed on a table or shelf, Hayashi’s work elevates the space around it, adding a thoughtful and modern touch to any lifestyle rooted in appreciation for craftsmanship.
